Qualifications:

Core responsibilities:

  • Reconciliation of cash and security transactions.
  • Pricing portfolio’s including Equities, Options, Futures, Fixed Income, OTC’s and Forwards.
  • Responding to client queries in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Preparation of SAS70 compliant daily, weekly and monthly files.
  • Assist in preparation of audited Financial Statements and annual audit.

The successful candidate should:

  • Have a minimum of one years experience in the administration of Hedge Funds.
  • Third level qualification (minimum 2.2 degree), qualified or part qualified accountant or other relevant qualification.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of software applications.
  • Have a working knowledge of Bloomberg.
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of funds, fund structures, fee calculations, trading strategies, financial instruments and fund offering documentation.

Preference will be given to candidates who have:

  • Performed a similar role.
  • Have worked with Advent Geneva.
  • Candidates will be required to attend for interview. Candidates will also be required to sit an excel based case study and industry knowledge test.

Compensation

Property and Real Estate Accountant, Waterloo

We are looking for a Property and Real Estate Accountant to join our Waterloo office. The successful candidate will be responsible for all required day-to-day accounting functions for an assigned portfolio of properties and real estate development projects. The properties and real estate projects will generally be North American based and vary by size and type. It is a comprehensive position, and requires the individual to have a solid understanding of all aspects of accounting and real estate project developments.

Summary of Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare financial reports for assigned properties and real estate projects for our client.
  • Calculate and record the operating revenues and expenses on a monthly basis.
  • Perform required accounting functions, balancing of sub-ledgers to general ledger, entry of journal entries including analysis of balance sheet accounts, preparations of supporting working papers, etc.
  • Prepare reporting as required for the client including; cash flow projections, reports required by auditors, tax advisors, lawyers as required.
  •  Act as a resource for operational staff to; provide required accounting information and expertise to Property Managers and Property Administrators, review month end unbilled adjustments and financial statements, prepare monthly variance analysis reports, and assist in the preparation and review of annual budgets and tenant year end billings.
  • Ensure accounting information is properly recorded by operational staff including; security deposits, accounts receivable adjustments, coding supplier invoices, etc.
  • Ensure proper setup of new buildings from a financial aspect in the accounting system.
  • Perform treasury functions including cash management and cash flow projections
  • Review and analyze the general ledger and ensure records are kept in compliance with
  • GAAP or other basis of accounting
  • Partner with the Property Manager and Staff Accountants to ensure accuracy of financial reporting and budgets
  • Prepare accounting memos for new real estate developments for review by internal and external management

Required Skills:

  • University Degree or Diploma
  • Minimum 3 years related property management accounting experience.
  • A professional accounting designation, CA, CMA or CGA is preferred, otherwise candidate must be actively enrolled in CGA or CMA accounting program.
  • Ability to deliver excellent customer service at all levels of the organization and with external partners.
  • Possess strong organizational, time management and project management skills with a demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Exhibit a high level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong relationship-building ability, proactive, results-oriented, and resourceful.
  • Ability to meet deadlines without compromising accuracy, excellent product quality and attention to detail.

  • Should be ICSA Qualified / Nearly Qualified with at least 1 – 2 years experience in corporate secretarial within the funds industry.
  • Candidates will be required to attend for interview.

Compensation

Butterfield Fulcrum Completes SOC 1 Type 2 Certification

New York, London, Hamilton, Bermuda:  January 11, 2011 – Butterfield Fulcrum, a leading independent fund services provider, is pleased to announce today that it has successfully completed an examination of its global middle and back office, fund administration solutions and services for the SOC 1 Type II Certification.

A big four audit firm has examined the design and effectiveness of specified controls and the scope of the report covered eight locations and jurisdictions in which Butterfield Fulcrum operates or has offices. The 2011 SOC 1 Report (formerly SAS 70 Type 2 reports) were prepared in accordance with the SSAE No. 16 and the ISAE 3402.

Tim Calveley, Executive Director of Butterfield Fulcrum, said: “One of our most important objectives is to demonstrate and validate industry-leading controls and processes.  Building upon previous independent examinations, completed annually since 2006, we have further subjected our middle office solutions, which leverage the Paladyne suite of products, to similar rigorous testing as part of the new ISAE framework.”

The independent examination consisted of an evaluation of the design and operating effectiveness of controls related to month end net asset value (“NAV”) processes, investor relations processes and information technology. From a fund accounting and investor relations perspective, controls included in the examination support trade processing, price verification, reconciliations of cash and positions, NAV production and investor services. From an information technology perspective, the examination included controls related to logical and physical security, disaster recovery, data transmission, and change and problem management.
